What does it do:
- it stores and lets you organize your bibliographic data
- it turns them into citations
- it allows sharing
- it automatically inserts references in your writings
- it gets you in touch with other scholars on the web and with their work
Strengths:
- It's very handy and saves time when it comes to collecting data on the web
- being a free and open-source software, it benefits from great participation of users from all over the world, with forums to support, and teams ready to fix possible bugs, and to develop new functions.
Zotero at the beginning was just a plug-in of browser Mozilla Firefox, that is an extension which allows you to catch bibliographic data in web pages.
Although this is still the main version today, there are different types of installation for Zotero, depending on your needs: the standalone variation for PC and the variations for browser other than Mozilla.
